The Multi-Color Poodle - Breeder Referral Links: Alphabetically "Parti Poodles are very exquisite, and wonderful Dogs to admire. They have unsurpassed personalities. Parti Poodles were accepted for exhibition in the early 1850's to 1900. It was not until the first poodle standards were adopted, that most breeders decided to go with only the solid color poodles, for show. The reason is not clear, but it is believed that it was a factional decision, between those who bred the old English poodle (parti colored), and those who imported from Germany (solid color). I also believe that it had to do in part, with the uniform look of the solids, in a the Show-cut, and functional trim, making every poodle equal to the other, in appearance." (The origin of the word "Parti" actually means more than one color, also "of two colours", and was given to a poodle that has more then one color.)
